In the Qur’an, numerous verses address believers or discuss the advantages of their belief. One such example is found in Surah al-An’am, verse 82:
ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُوا۟ وَلَمْ يَلْبِسُوٓا۟ إِيمَـٰنَهُم بِظُلْمٍ أُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَ لَهُمُ ٱلْأَمْنُ وَهُم مُّهْتَدُونَ
Those who believe and do not cloak their faith in wrongdoing will feel more secure and will be [better] guided.
This verse highlights the incredible benefits that come from belief.
However, reading the translation alone deprives us of the beautiful consonance present in the original Arabic text. The words translated as ‘believe’, ‘faith’, and ‘secure’ are expressed by Allah as: ءَامَنُوا۟, إِيمَـٰنَهُم, and ٱلْأَمْنُ.
All three words share the same root – ء م ن – which conveys the concept of security. In fact, the root’s origin means ‘to be tranquil in heart or mind.’
In Arabic, ‘belief’ءَامَنُوا۟ and ‘faith’ إِيمَـٰن come from the same word as a verb and noun, respectively, representing fidelity to the trust given by Allah and a calm, tranquil, unwavering heart. ‘Security’ ٱلْأَمْنُ, on the other hand, refers to the inner tranquility that arises from being free from fear and harm.
True faith in all its forms naturally leads to security – a society that values faith and trust (another word from the same root أمانة) will flourish in strength and progress in every domain, ultimately achieving national security, social security, and security in health, food, and other areas.
